Larks Leas Resident Gordon Grenville-Hunt Honoured at the D-Day 80 Beacon Lighting Ceremony

D-Day 80 Beacon Lighting Ceremony
Last week was a very special occasion for one of our remarkable residents. 103-year-old Gordon Grenville-Hunt was honoured with the task of lighting the beacon at the D-Day 80 Beacon Lighting Ceremony on 6th June.

The inspiring event, which took place at Woodhouse Gardens in Blandford Forum, saw our rest home resident participating in a moving tribute to the heroes of D-Day. This day of remembrance gave us all an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many during the war.

After lighting the beacon, Gordon was presented with a commemorative D-Day 80 badge from the Mayor of Blandford Forum, Councillor Nocturin Lacey-Clarke. This was a massive honour for Gordon and a real highlight of the evening, recognising his incredible contribution and admirable dedication.

We would like to thank Gordon’s family and Blandford Forum Town Council for working with us to make this happen. Gordon is a truly inspiring gentleman whose life story is a glowing example of the extraordinary lives our care home residents lead.
