Despite the cold temperatures and wet winter weather, January has been anything but dull at Larks Leas Retirement Home. Our residents have embraced the new year with warmth, laughter and plenty of celebration, proving that community spirit shines brightly whatever the season.
As a welcoming rest home in Blandford, we believe in creating meaningful experiences that bring people together – and this January certainly delivered.
A Memorable Burn’s Night Celebration
One of the highlights of the month was our lively Burn’s Night celebration. The home was filled with the sounds of Scottish music as Richard and Ellie Gracie treated us to a wonderful singalong. Residents joined in enthusiastically, clapping and singing along to traditional tunes that brought back fond memories.
A particular favourite moment was Richard’s spirited performance of the famous Address to the Haggis. His theatrical delivery had everyone smiling and set the tone for a truly authentic evening.
After the entertainment, residents enjoyed sampling a traditional taste of Scotland. The menu included haggis, scotch whisky cocktails, and delicious shortbread. We were especially proud that some of our residents had helped to prepare the cranachan, adding a personal touch to the celebration. Sharing food, music and laughter together created a warm and inclusive atmosphere that perfectly reflects life at Larks Leas.
Following the success of this year’s event, we are already planning a grand Burn’s Night lunch for next year – something for everyone to look forward to.
A Visit from a Real-Life Cowboy
As if one celebration wasn’t enough, we were also delighted to welcome singer Dean Robbins back to Dorset after his three-year adventure as a real cowboy in America. His fascinating stories of ranch life and life in the United States captivated our residents from the very beginning.
Dean’s performance had toes tapping and hands clapping as he sang a mix of well-loved classics and country favourites. Music has a wonderful way of bringing people together, and the room was filled with energy as residents joined in. We are already looking forward to welcoming him back for another visit in the near future.
