Larks Leas Celebrates VE Day and the Arrival of Spring

Larks Leas Celebrates VE Day 1

May has been a wonderfully busy and special month at Larks Leas Rest Home.  A key highlight was our celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day.  Several of our residents are veterans and another is a former wartime nurse, and it was interesting to hear their incredible personal stories.  Others spoke of childhood experiences, remembering blackouts and rationing.  We wrapped up the day with a nostalgic singalong by Richard Gracie, followed by a traditional afternoon tea with cream cakes and china cups.

This month has also brought plenty of personal joy, with four of our beloved rest home residents – Joan, Valeria, Jean, and Sylvia – celebrating their birthdays.  With their combined 369 years, they continue to inspire us and light up our home with their smiles.  Our talented cook helped make every day special, creating beautiful cakes and treats to make each birthday celebration memorable.

Of course, we’ve also taken advantage of the sunny spring days with some scenic outings in our minibus.  Residents took in the beautiful sights of the bluebells in bloom and enjoyed a relaxing lunch at a local garden centre.  These trips are a valued part of life at our retirement home, combining nature and relaxation with social connection.

As a leading care home in Blandford, we create a warm and engaging environment where residents feel connected and at home.  With the garden in full bloom and a June garden party on the calendar, there’s plenty more to look forward to at Larks Leas.

We believe a retirement home should be:

  • Where each person is an individual
  • Where there are no unnecessary rules and regulations
  • Where dignity, peace and comfort take priority
  • Where companionship, interest and activity flourishes.
  • And where people are supported to lead the fullest possible lives
