A Joyful Start to the New Year at Larks Leas Rest Home

At Larks Leas, we would like to wish all our friends, families and wider community a very Happy New Year. We welcomed the start of 2026 in true celebratory style, raising glasses of colourful mocktails and cocktails while festive music filled our home with warmth, laughter and cheer. It was a wonderful way to begin another year together, surrounded by familiar faces and the comforting sense of belonging that defines life at our rest home in Blandford.

Now that the Christmas decorations have come down, the festive season already feels like a distant memory – but what beautiful memories we created along the way. From the very start of December, our residents threw themselves into preparations with enthusiasm and creativity. The aroma of freshly baked cakes drifted through the home as everyone took part in decorating, crafting and planning the celebrations ahead. These shared moments of teamwork and togetherness perfectly capture the spirit of our residential care home in Dorset.

Throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas, our days were filled with joyful activities. There were lively singalongs, friendly team quizzes and plenty of laughter during our much-loved bingo sessions. These events not only brought fun and excitement but also strengthened the bonds between residents and staff, reminding us all of the importance of community, connection and compassionate support – values that sit at the heart of our approach to elderly care in Blandford.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this festive season so special. A huge thank you goes to Richard Gracie, who kindly stepped in for Santa while he was busy delivering gifts around the world, and who also delighted us by strutting onto the stage as an unforgettable ugly sister in our very own panto. Lorraine Tillbrook was a wonderfully helpful elf, sharing her musical talents and adding an extra sparkle to our celebrations.

We are also incredibly grateful to Tickled Pink Productions for bringing us a fantastic Christmas show. Their singing and dancing were a joy to watch, and their genuine warmth and sensitivity in interacting with our residents brought smiles to many faces. Blandford Parish Church kindly shared their Advent Communion service with us, while Gill and Alan McIntosh treated us to a beautiful Christmas Carol Service, complete with folk tunes, guitars and the rhythmic beat of the bodhrán.

Our thanks also go to Andy Hague for his ever-popular accordion and singing, Blanchards Solicitors for their generous donation of goodies, and Mandy West for ensuring our residents looked their very best with an extra Christmas hairdressing visit. A special mention must go to the residents and staff who took part in our little panto, filling the room with laughter and festive cheer. As we move forward into the new year, we remain proud to be part of the wider network of care homes in Dorset, offering a warm, supportive and joyful environment for all who call Larks Leas home. Thank you to everyone who helped make Christmas 2025 and the New Year such a memorable and meaningful time for us all.

We believe a retirement home should be:

  • Where each person is an individual
  • Where there are no unnecessary rules and regulations
  • Where dignity, peace and comfort take priority
  • Where companionship, interest and activity flourishes.
  • And where people are supported to lead the fullest possible lives
