Whilst our in-house chef usually takes care of the food preparation here at Larks Leas Rest Home, we decided it would be a nice change for the residents to have a hand in preparing their own meal for once - and fortunately they also thought it was a fantastic idea!
Pizza is one of the most universally-loved foods, and for good reason too! Its versatility allows it to be enjoyed by everybody, regardless of personal taste preferences and dietary restrictions. It was definitely the perfect choice of dish to put the culinary skills of our residents to the test.
Each resident had to decide what type of pizza they wanted to create - and with a huge range of toppings available the options were endless. After making their minds up on which tasty toppings to utilise on their delectable creations, they got to work. With fresh dough, tomato pizza sauce and several types of cheese on hand they each expertly assembled their pizza before garnishing it with their chosen toppings.
The last task to complete before sending their pizzas off to be cooked to perfection - each one had to be christened with an appropriate name. There were some fantastic and creative names which included Marion’s “Mediterranean Marvel” and Norman’s “Hawaiian Nibbler”, which obviously featured a healthy quantity of the most controversial pizza topping of them all - pineapple!
Everybody had such a fantastic time getting to make their very own creation and the experience was topped off by having some delicious pizza to feast on as a reward for their hard work. We don’t think we’ll get away with having the residents at our rest home in Blandford make their own dinner everyday, however, they are definitely excited for their next pizza party!
